Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” John 6:28-29 NKJV
The ultimate manifestation of persistent sin can be understood as a state of unmitigated spiritual slumber—an existence of unawakening—which culminates in true death. This true death signifies a profound separation from God, a state described by Christ as one of “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 8:12).
For Gurdjieff, this condition finds its counterpart in the “hassnamuss,” a term denoting individuals who, through their own choices, remain perpetually trapped by their ego and forever cut-off from God. Such individuals are incapable of perceiving, let alone connecting to, realities that transcend their self-centered existence.
Whatever part of us that may survive the process of death, of necessity, requires "assistance" from a higher source for its transition. And this assistance can only come if there has been prepared, beforehand, an awareness of its possible presence at the moment of truth. For those that believe there is nothing after death and look no further, ironically, only assure themselves of this very nothingness.
Christ’s message of the boundless and eternal love of God, a gift freely offered to humanity, is, tragically, often met with rejection. It is as if our species struggles to accept a gift that comes without conditions. Yet, in embracing this Love lies the key to enabling a connection with the ultimate reality we seek.
For Gurdjieff, this principle aligns with the notion that everything we need for awakening is already present within and around us. However, this truth is frequently dismissed as humanity continues to prioritize the external world over the internal, deeming the inner life less real, less significant, and less worthy of attention. This persistent devaluation of the inner realm only serves to perpetuate spiritual stagnation and alienation, and all the consequences that flow from it.
True Atheism leads to extreme narcissism as it denies any intelligence other than its own.
True Agnosticism remains egoistic as its default position is Atheism.
True Theism leads to ego-liberation as it admits an intelligence greater than its own.
I have yet to meet a True Atheist, Agnostic or Theist!
